SF Ordinance 211-17: BuzziSpace complies with new US law

We’re happy to announce that BuzziSpace is taking the necessary steps to be among the first to comply with a new US law, restricting flame retardants in upholstered furniture, reupholstered furniture and juvenile products. These new restrictions will be enforced from January 1, 2019.

But why this new law?

In short, San Francisco has revised the flammability standard and decided that the fire safety requirements for upholstered furniture can be achieved without adding flame retardant chemicals.

Following extensive research, San Francisco has found that many flame-retardant chemicals are recognized as suspects of impacting human health or development.

What products does the law apply to?

All upholstered products—defined as furniture which can be used as a support for the body of a human being, or his or her limbs and feet when sitting or resting in an upright or reclining position.

At BuzziSpace this applies to: BuzziBag, BuzziBalance, BuzziBounce, BuzziCane, BuzziCube, BuzziFloat, BuzziHive, BuzziHub, BuzziMe, BuzziMilk, BuzziNordic, BuzziPicNic Bench, BuzziPouf, BuzziPuzzle, BuzziSpark, BuzziSpot, BuzziVille Bench, BuzziVille Hub, BuzziVille Hub Open

What changed for your favorite BuzziSpace products?

We made sure all components, e.g. upholstery and filling, in the products listed above are compliant and do not contain any added flame-retardant chemicals.

The products impacted by this law and delivered to the Californian region will be affixed with a label stating that the item does not contain Flame Retardant Chemical. This label is easy to remove without leaving any marks.
